Their records come across as quasi Americana largely due to prominent lap steel and mid-tempos. But live Animal Piss are a whole ’nother zorched, panic choogle ballgame. At their Stork Club show back in July Animal Piss were shambolic and supremely rocking, zero lap steel but featuring instead a ripping, scorching, Mascis-ian lead guitarist along with belted-out dual lead collision vocals. Felt like the second coming of The Fugs. Real life affirming shit. The crowd went bananas. My favorite live band of 2024 (aside from some of the ones i saw this year at Gonerfest).
