Boston’s Dogmatics had a leg up by coming up at the same time as the ’Mats, making them less imitators than peers. Their first album in nearly 40 years isn’t quite a firebreather, but there’s no shame in that. What matters are the songs and the sound, which still sound crisp and pure. Leader Jerry Lehane and his co-frontpeople James Young and Peter O’Halloran base their catchy pop/punk tunes in old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll values, which leads “I Can’t Get Over You,” “Nothing to Be Learned,” and the skillet-lickin’ “Con Job” to insist that having a good time is the only reason to be alive.
